Lucmabamba, Santa Teresa — on day three of the Salkantay Trek.
If you are in Lucmabamba, you can do it today. Walk up any time between 8am and 3pm, and we get you on the first cable.
Five cables strung from one mountain to the other across the Salkantay River, then a 300-metre Tibetan bridge to finish. You ride all five — the price is for the complete circuit.
Each cable runs from one mountain to the other across the Salkantay River, so every one of them gives you a different view of the valley.
You are not just strapped in and sent down the line. Our guides set you up in whichever position you feel like trying, and change it between cables if you want.
Upside down and superman are not stunts you do on your own. A guide rigs the harness for each one before you leave the platform, and another receives you at the far end.
If you would rather just sit and enjoy the view, that is completely fine too.
Three hundred metres of suspension bridge strung high above the Salkantay River. It comes at the very end, after cable five, and you cross it on foot.
It is slower than the cables and, for most people, the part that takes more nerve. You are clipped to a safety line the whole way across.
The circuit is certified and holds the permits required by the local authorities. The equipment is Petzl — harnesses, helmets, pulleys and carabiners — and it is checked regularly.
Our guides run the whole operation. They fit your harness, clip you in, send you off and receive you at the other end. You do not handle any of the gear yourself, and you need no previous experience.
You reach Lucmabamba on day three, usually between 11 in the morning and midday, and your afternoon is free. The circuit fits in that gap — you can do it before or after lunch and still rest before the walk to Llactapata the next morning.
It does not matter which agency you are trekking with, or whether you are walking the route on your own. We are on the same trail, and everyone is welcome.
You can also cancel yourself for any reason — tired legs, second thoughts, anything — and get your money back. You are not committing on day one to something you will only feel ready to judge on day three.
